The population of Hugo is now more than 14,000 people and covers 36 square miles. There are approximately 100 miles of City streets maintained by the City's Public Works Department. The Washington County Sheriff Department provides police services on a contractual basis and the City provides fire and rescue service through the use of paid-on-call Firefighters & EMT’s. The City Hall staff consists of a City Administrator, Planner, Parks Planner, Finance Director, Accounting Clerk, Building Official, Building Inspectors, City Clerk, Utility Billing Clerk and Building Department Secretary. Public Works also includes a Public Works Director, Senior Engineering Technician, nine full-time employees and seasonal staff.
